Alberta Work Experience Stream
Applicants under this stream submit an application nominating themselves for Canadian permanent residency, as opposed to some categories where an employer or third party must nominate candidates.
In order to be eligible under the Alberta Work Experience Stream, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Applicant must currently reside in Alberta;
- Applicants must submit official test results showing that they meet the minimum language standards. Test results cannot be more than two years old at the time of application.
- Applicant must be working full-time in Alberta at the time of application and must have a valid work permit with temporary residence status in one of the eligible occupations;
- The application must intend to reside and work permanently in the province of Alberta in one of the eligible occupations;
Eligible Occupations and Work Experience
Applicants must demonstrate that they have been working full-time in an eligible occupation in Alberta for a certain amount of time depending on the skill level of their current occupation. Applicants working in a NOC skill level 0, A or B occupation, must be able to show that they have been working full-time in Alberta in an eligible occupation for two out of the past three years. If the applicant’s current occupation is classified as NOC skill level C, the applicant must be able to show they have been working full-time in Alberta for three out of the past four year. In either instance, the applicant must have a job in one of the eligible occupations in order to apply under this stream. Full-time work is defined as 30 hours per week, not including overtime. Verify if your occupation falls under one of the eligible occupations.
