Citizenship and Immigration Canada require that the Federal Skilled Worker prove first language abilities in one of Canada`s official languages (English or French).
The maximum amount of points that can be awarded under the Language Skills Factor are 28; it is contingent on the applicant’s ability to speak English or French. Aptitude in a first language (English or French) can be awarded up to 24 points, and 4 points are awarded for a second language (English or French). Either one of Canada`s two official languages can be used by the Federal Skilled Workers Applicant as a first or second language.
Federal Skilled Worker applicants are required to include their language evaluation results; either the Test d’Evaluation de Français (TEF) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) are required. Without these evaluation results language points will not be awarded. may be awarded. No other method of indicating linguistic abilities will be accepted. The language exam will assess the Federal Skilled Worker Applicants ability to meet or exceed a minimum threshold in listening, reading, speaking and writing. The threshold is based on the Canadian Language benchmark (CLB) 7; a score at this number demonstrates “adequate intermediate proficiency”. Please note that you must score at this level or above in order to be eligible to apply to the Federal Skilled Worker program.
