Yukon Skilled Worker Program
The Yukon Skilled Worker Program has two categories:
1) Skilled Worker Category
2) Critical Impact Worker Category
Yukon’s Skilled Worker Category
Applicants under this category must have received a permanent full-time job offer from a Yukon employer in an occupation that is either managerial, professional, technical or a skilled trade (jobs listed under NOC levels 0, A or B).
Both the applicant and the employer must meet a number of requirements in order to qualify under this Yukon Nominee Program. Requirements for the applicant are listed as follows:
- Applicant must have the education, credentials and work experience necessary to perform the job they have been offered in Canada (according to NOC);
- Applicant must have proficiency in either English or French. Applicants must provide valid tests results proving such proficiency (acceptable tests are the IELTS or CELPIP for English and TEF for French);
- If applying form within Canada, the applicant must have legal status in Canada at the time of the application.
- Applicants who are studying in Canada on a student permit must provide proof of one year of study for certificate programs and two years of study for diploma programs in order to be eligible under this program. Proof of completion of a Bachelor program may also be considered under this program as well those who are enrolled in an ESL program at a Yukon College and who are at an advanced level.
- Applicants cannot be a refugee claimant.
The employer offering the job to the foreign national must meet the following requirements:
- Employer must provide proof of local and national recruitment efforts (minimum advertising requirement);
- The business/employer must have be registered and in operation in the Yukon for at least one year OR the employer must be a recognized government body in the Yukon;
- Employers must submit a copy of their Business license;
- Employers must meet Yukon’s labour standards;
- Employers must provide a comparable rate of pay;
Yukon’s Critical Impact Worker Category
The critical impact worker category was designed to recruit foreign nationals in lower skilled occupations for which there is a labour shortage in the Yukon Territory. Applicants under this category must have received a permanent full-time job offer from a Yukon employer in an occupation that falls under NOC level C or D.
Both the applicant and the employer must meet a number of requirements in order for an application to be successful under this Yukon Nominee Program. Requirements for the applicant are listed as follows:
- Applicant must have the education, credentials and work experience necessary to perform the job they have been offered in Canada (according to NOC);
- Applicant must have at least 6 months of work related experience in the occupation they are being offered.
- Applicant must have sufficient knowledge of either English or French. Applicants must provide valid tests results (acceptable tests are the IELTS or CELPIP for English and TEF for French);
- If applying form within Canada, the applicant must have legal status in Canada at the time of the application.
- Applicants who are studying in Canada on a student permit must provide proof of one year of study for certificate programs and two years of study for diploma programs in order to be eligible under this program.
