1. Skilled Worker Stream

This PEI immigration stream allows PEI employers to hire those foreign nationals who have the required skills and education for the job being offered. The job being offered must be recognized under Canadian immigration law. Foreign nationals must meet the criteria listed before being nominated under this PEI PNP stream.

  • Applicant must have a permanent full-time job offer from a PEI employer, for a job recognized under Canadian immigration law.
  • Applicant must have a valid Canada work permit if they are currently employed by a PEI employer.
  • Applicants must be legally living in the country they are currently residing in.
  • Applications must attend an interview with the Office of Immigration if required.
  • Applicants should be between the ages of 21 and 55 and they must have at least two years of full-time work experience within the past 5 years.
  • Applicants must prove they possess sufficient proficiency with the English or French language. This may be proven via test results, a declaration from a PEI employer attesting to your language ability, or education/training documents from and internationally recognized institution where the person studied and communicated in French of English
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have sufficient funds and support to supports themselves and those dependents who might be accompanying him or her.
  • Applicants must have a genuine intention to settle in the province of PEI.

The employer must also meet a number of requirements, such as:

  • The offer of employment must be for a full-time position, where the applicant will be working in the province of PEI.
  • The employer must ensure that the applicant has the necessary and required skills, education and experience to perform the occupation that he or she is being offered
  • The employer’s terms ands conditions must meet all applicable provincial and federal workplace standards.
  • The employer must offer a comparable industry wage rate.
  • That all existing bargaining unit agreements and employment disputes are being respected.
  • The employer must verify that the applicant has the necessary credentials to be eligible to work in the occupation in PEI.
  • Employer must provide an employment contract, which includes specific terms and conditions.
  • Employer must demonstrate that there is a need to hire such a foreign national, and that there were no Canadian citizens or permanent residents ready and able to fill the position. This can be proven by way of a labour market opinion, or the applicant may be exempt from proving such need if he falls within a certain type of occupation.
  • The employer might be asked to attend an interview with the Office of Immigration, Settlement and population, the government body responsible for administering the PEI immigration program.

 

2.     Critical Worker Stream

PEI’s innovation and primary sectors requires skills and training that are lacking in the province, therefore causing labour shortages for some employers. This stream is a pilot program and will reviewed annually to assess the impact it has had on occupations and industries that it is meant to target. There are 5 occupations that are currently targeted under this stream: truck drivers, customer service representatives, labourers, food and beverage servers and housekeeping attendants.

PEI PNP Critical Worker Stream will be selected if they meet the following criteria:

  • The offer of employment must be for a full-time position
  • The job offer is recognized under Canadian immigration law, in one of the five following occupations: truck drivers, customer service representatives, labourers, food and beverage servers and housekeeping attendants.
  • The applicant must have worked a minimum of 6 months for the PEI employer.
  • Must have a valid work permit and have a genuine intention to work and live in the province of PEI.
  • Attend an interview at the Office of Immigration if required.
  • Applicants should be between the ages of 21 and 55 and have atleast two years of full-time work experience within the past five years.
  • The applicant must be able to demonstrate sufficient proficiency in the French or English language.
  • The applicant must be able to demonstrate that they are able to financially support themselves and their family members.

Similar to the skilled worker stream, the employer must also meet a number of requirements, such as:

  • The offer of employment must be for a full-time position, where the applicant will be working in the province of PEI.
  • The employer must ensure that the applicant has the necessary and required skills, education and experience to perform the occupation that he or she is being offered
  • The employer’s terms ands conditions must meet all applicable provincial and federal workplace standards and the employer must offer a comparable industry wage rate.
  • Employer must ensure that all existing bargaining unit agreements and employment disputes are being respected.
  • The employer must verify that the applicant has the necessary credentials to be eligible to work in the occupation in PEI.
  • Employer must provide an employment contract, which includes specific terms and conditions, along with specific signatures.
  • Employer must demonstrate that there is a need to hire such a foreign national, either by way of a labour market opinion, or the applicant may be exempt from proving such need if he falls within a certain type of occupation. The employer must have attempted to fill the position with a Canadian citizen or a Canadian permanent resident.
  • The employer might be asked to attend an interview with the Office of Immigration, Settlement and population, the government body responsible for administering the PEI immigration program.
